For the love of sauce…

Sauce is a personal thing. I am 100% a sauce person. I think sauces are one of the easiest game changers when it comes to cooking meals at home. They really tie everything together and give the meal that extra punch of flavor. When used to compliment a meal, the perfect sauce can really make all the difference. I recommend thinking of a few sauces you just absolutely love & learn how to make them at home. The sauce will be fresher, healthier & so much better than what you can find in the store. Some pre-made sauces are amazing, but when it comes to Mediterranean sauces like Tzatziki & Hummus, nothing compares to homemade. Alright, let’s make some Tzatziki sauce!

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • 1 cup plain whole-milk yogurt
  • 1/2 cup cucumber finely diced
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • cracked black pepper, to taste

How to Make Tzatziki Sauce:

  1. Combine ingredients in a medium-sized bowl.
  2. Refrigerate until ready to serve!

Serving Suggestions:

I usually drizzle some Tzatziki sauce on top the main course meat or full meal and use the rest for dipping. I love to have fresh naan bread or lavash to dunk into the Tzatziki sauce. Find the best bread you can or try making it yourself! Your local farmer’s market is a great place to check for fresh naan bread or any sort of soft dipping bread. Fresh bread with homemade Tzatziki sauce is sooo good, one of my favorites The smell, the flavor, the texture, the brightness of the ingredients – it’s all so good. If you are a sauce lover like me, you may want to even double the recipe to have extra for bread dipping. I’m so excited for you to try it!

Recipe Tips

Fresh Garlic & Lemon: If time allows, combine the minced garlic and lemon juice first and let it sit for a few minutes before adding the yogurt & cucumber. The fresh lemon juice helps to mellow the raw garlic flavor just a bit.

Quality yogurt: Use a quality 100% whole milk greek yogurt for this recipe. A full-fat, creamy yogurt balances out the tangy garlic and lemon. It also keeps the sauce thick with the addition of juice from both the lemon and cucumber.

Optional Herbs: This recipe is dill-free (how we like), but 1 to 2 tablespoon of chopped herbs (dill or mint) would be a great addition here.
